Concept Design

Ankara, Turkey – Interior design of a landmark mosque blending Islamic tradition with contemporary elegance, spiritual depth, and community purpose.

brief.

Commissioned by architect Salim Alp, Be Studio was invited to contribute to the interior design of Ahmet Hamdi Akseki Mosque in Ankara. The vision was to create an environment that honors Islamic heritage while supporting the evolving needs of a modern congregation. This sacred space needed to serve not only as a place of worship but also as a dynamic cultural and educational community hub.

details.

Crafted with reverence and precision, the mosque’s interiors combine classical Ottoman influences with refined modern materials. The entrance, designed by artisan Bilal, features intricately carved doors that pay tribute to Islamic craftsmanship. Inside, the minber, mihrap, and mahfil were designed with spatial clarity and spiritual focus in mind—each anchored in tradition yet expressed with contemporary restraint. Expansive outdoor courtyards support large-scale religious gatherings, while indoor areas foster individual reflection and daily worship. The mosque also houses spaces for educational programs and cultural activities that foster connection and learning. Every detail, from stone finishes to the soft light filtering through the windows, was chosen to elevate the experience of devotion. The result is a harmonious sanctuary where architecture, spirituality, and community intertwine.
