The Vision for Transformation in Hampstead Garden Suburb

Our lovely clients—a growing family with two energetic kids (ages 6 and 10)—have outgrown their home’s current layout. Their needs have evolved, and so must their space! We’ll be reimagining the entire interior, from structural tweaks (think windows, roof tiles, and finishes) to crafting a beautifully functional flow that works for modern family life.

What’s Happening Now?

Right now, we’re deep in Stage 1: Feasibility Study—playing with layout options to unlock this home’s full potential. With 2,000 sq ft to play with, we’re focusing on smart, stylish solutions that balance aesthetics with everyday practicality. (Because let’s be honest—kids + clutter = design challenge!)

Timeline & Next Steps

  • Feasibility study wraps up by mid-April ✅

  • Full interior design completed by mid-July 🎨

  • Construction to follow ASAP 🔨

Feasibility Study: Exploring Smart, Stylish Possibilities

We’re currently immersed in Stage 1: Feasibility Study—where creativity meets constraint and new ideas are born. With approximately 2,000 sq ft to work with, we’ve developed multiple layout scenarios to explore the home’s untapped potential.

Existing Ground Floor Layout

We’ve proposed four distinct approaches for the ground level, each offering a different degree of transformation:

  • Options A & B: These designs embrace minimal structural intervention, preserving much of the existing framework while introducing better spatial flow and functionality. By reducing the need for external foundation work, they provide efficient and cost-effective solutions—ideal for minimal disruption.

  • Options C & D: Here, we explore the potential for a more expansive transformation. These concepts suggest removing certain external walls and extending toward the rear garden. The result? A dramatic open-plan space that blends indoor and outdoor living, filled with natural light and designed for connection.

Upper Floor: Light, Balance, and Bespoke Comfort

Before we reimagine, we listen—and the current upper floor presents a few key challenges that no longer align with our clients' evolving needs. The children’s rooms are unevenly sized, creating imbalance in both function and flow. The master bedroom, while spacious, relies heavily on floating furniture for storage, resulting in a lack of cohesion and efficiency. Most notably, natural light is limited, leaving the primary suite feeling dim and disconnected from the vibrant garden just beyond.

Existing Upper Floor Layout

This layout has served its time, but now it’s ready for a thoughtful transformation—one that brings balance, clarity, and elevated comfort to every corner.

Upstairs, we’re envisioning elegant reconfigurations that elevate both comfort and utility:

  • Two load-bearing walls will be removed to create equally sized children’s bedrooms, promoting balance and functionality for the growing kids.

  • The master suite will feature a dedicated wardrobe space and a full-height garden-facing window—a luxurious architectural gesture that maximizes daylight and connects the interior with the greenery outside.

  • The guest bedroom will be subtly divided using bespoke joinery, forming two distinct zones: a restful sleeping area and a serene study nook—perfect for visiting family or a live-in au pair.

We’ve received our initial feedback from the client and are refining the layout to ensure every detail aligns with their vision and lifestyle. This is the stage where thoughtful iteration makes all the difference—balancing aesthetics, functionality, and future needs.

Once the layout is finalized next week, we’ll move into the concept design phase—where the real magic begins. From mood boards to materials, this is where ideas take shape and the home’s character starts to shine.
